From Ideas To Approved Products: Building Effective Intellectual Property Strategies In The Biopharmaceuttical Industry
from Women Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology (WEST)
This event has passed.
Thursday, April 3, 2008, 6:00pm - 9:00pm

Launching a biopharmaceutical product can take an average of 15 years and millions of dollars in R&D costs as products progress from drug discovery, clinical trials, to ultimate regulatory approval. In view of the small number of approved biotech products and delayed return in R&D costs, intellectual property is a significant portion of the value of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The speakers will discuss the role of intellectual property with emphasis on biotechnology and pharmaceutical patent protection in the context of academia-to-small start ups, mid-to-large biotechnology companies and pharmaceutical companies.

Topics covered include:

- Importance of intellectual property from early to late stages
- Developing effective IP directed to early R&D vs. late product development
- How the IP of others effects the value of your product
